Let’s get this celebration of Phila-area field hockey going — the perfect jump start to your #PhilaFHfall2016 season!
The 3rd annual Philafieldhockey Day is set: Saint Joseph’s University will host Temple University in a battle between two Phila-area Division I teams fighting for city bragging rights. Game day and time: Sunday, August 28th at 3:00pm at SJU’s Ellen Ryan Field.* The match up is the fourth and final in the Saint Joseph’s Conference Cup held on Friday, August 26 and the 28th. Prior to the SJU vs. Temple game, at noon, defending National Champion Syracuse University will take on perennial powerhouse Maryland.
In last year’s SJU vs. TU contest, the Owls edged the Hawks, 3-2. This year’s game should line up to be another nail bitter.
Both teams’ 2016 rosters are chock-full with local talent. Saint Joseph’s boats 7 Phila-area players including: #0 Laura Lasprogata (Fr./GK/Harriton), #2 Abby Alexis (So./M/Neshaminy), #5 Courtney Gerber (Fr./F-M/Owen J. Roberts), #7 Corinne Gerber (Fr./F/Owen J. Roberts), #13 Katja Hansen (Sr./B/Unionville), #21 Emily Sayre (Fr./F/Methacton) and #23 Melissa Herd (Jr./B/Pennridge).
More than a third of Temple’s roster attended Phila-area high schools including: #00 Chloe Johnson (So./GK/Conestoga), #9 Michelle Walsh (Sr./B-M/Carroll), #12 Becky Gerhart (Fr./B/Quakertown), #13 Rachael Mueller (Jr./M/William Tennent), #15 Nellie Doyle (So./B/Merion Mercy), #16 Ali Meszaros (Jr./B-M/Phoenixville), #23 Jessika Daniels (So./M/Garnet Valley) and #28 Ashley Kucera (R-So./M/Owen J. Roberts).
Philafieldhockey Day is designed to bring together teams and players at all levels from Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties in celebration of Phila-area hockey. Youth, middle school and high school players have the opportunity to learn from high caliber teams as well as to build team bonds in preparation for their fall seasons.
To get the party started, free Philly soft pretzels, pom-poms and Philafieldhockey stadium cups will be given to the first 150 registered participants; see details below.
Fans will also have the chance to mingle with the Saint Joseph’s and Temple players for a meet-and-greet and autograph session after the game. Bring your sticks and/or favorite t-shirts to be signed! Posters will also be on hand for autographs.
The Team Spirit Award will be presented again to the Phila-area high school, middle school, youth team or club with the most players in attendance. Your photo will be featured in our post-game write-up and via social media. With 27 players in attendance last year, Interboro High School edged a few other teams to win the Spirit Award trophy.

Shout out to Main Line Mayhem Field Hockey Club players who will serve as ball girls for the game. Philafieldhockey is also looking for some lucky players from youth field hockey organizations to escort the college players onto the field during introductions, as we did in 2014. Contact Kathleen@Philafieldhockey.com if your youth team/club is interested.
At last year’s Philafieldhockey Day, more than 400 fans poured into Villanova’s stadium for the college showdown between Villanova and La Salle. Athletes representing 30+ Phila-area high school, middle school, club and youth programs were in attendance, cheering on both the Wildcats and Explorers.
Entry to the game is free. Philafieldhockey.com Day registration is required for your team to be acknowledged in the game day program and during halftime, and to receive the giveaways (to the first 150 respondents.) Email Kathleen@Philafieldhockey.com quickly with an approximate headcount to be included.
