The teams in attendance included: Avon Grove White, Maroon, Black, and Gold; Kennett White, Blue, and Black; URA Blue and Gold; BYC Blue and Gold; Twin Valley Green and Black; Filia, Oxford, Lionville Youth Association (LYA), and First State.
The Avon Grove Fall Class is coordinated by Nicole Morley, Youth Director, and Sandy Leiti, Tournament Coordinator. Leiti also serves as a BYC Coach and the Avon Grove High School Varsity Coach.
“Great shout out to Avon Grove for hosting, especially to Nicole Morley and Sandy Leiti!” shared Kim Easter, Brandywine Youth Club (BYC) Field Hockey Commissioner and Garnet Valley 8th Middle School Coach.
The Academy of Notre Dame hosted the 9th annual Shamrock Invitational on September 17th. Eight local middle school teams participated including: Academy of Notre Dame, Annunciation BVM, Holy Child School of Rosemont, Sacred Heart, St. Denis (Parish), St. Katherine of Siena, St. Norbert School and Villa Maria Academy.
“Once again, it was a great success, “ shared Adele Williams, who directs the Invitational (and is also Head Coach at Notre Dame.) “The teams played with high energy and had amazing team spirit; the finals provided that same energy. It was a hard fought game between Villa Maria and Holy Child at Rosemont. Both teams battled for a long period in the first half. Villa Maria scored two quick goals towards the end of the first half and were able to maintain that lead to the final whistle.”
Joe Botta, Villa Middle School coach added: “The girls all played great hockey today, and the passing and the ball movement was excellent. We are very proud of the type of hockey they played today.”
