Four Phila-area club teams earned Gold at the USA Field Hockey National Indoor Tournament (NIT) held at Spooky Nook Sports, Lancaster, Pa., the home of the USA Women’s National Team. FSC Falcons, WC Eagles I, WC Eagles II, and X-Calibur Braveheart each stood on the podium to receive gold medals at the NIT — the pinnacle of the 2015-2016 indoor season, in which teams must qualify at National Indoor Qualifying (NIQ) tournaments.
From throughout the US, 138 teams, grouped in 23 pools of 6, converged on the Nook for the three-day tournament, February 19-21. Teams played on 8 courts while fans — including myself — enjoyed a bird’s eye view of the courts from second-floor balconies.
Congratulations to the eighteen Phila-area teams that qualified for and competed at the NIT. In addition to the four Gold Medal teams, five area teams secured 2nd place finishes. (Note: There is no cross-over play at the NIT U14.)
