The 4th annual Philafieldhockey Day is set: Drexel University will host the University of Pennsylvania in a battle between two Phila-area Division I teams fighting for city bragging rights. Game day and time: Friday, September 15 at 7:00 PM at Drexel’s Buckley Field.*
Philafieldhockey Day is designed to bring together teams and players at all levels from Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties in celebration of Phila-area hockey. High School, middle school and youth players have the opportunity to learn by watching high caliber teams in action, as well as to build team bonds for their fall seasons.
In last year’s Penn vs. Drexel contest, the Quakers edged the Dragons, 2-1. This year’s game should line up to be another nail bitter.
Lots of local talent Both Drexel and Penn have five players from Phila-area high schools. Local Dragons include: #3 Tess Horan (So./M-F/Haverford HS), #10 Katie Bagdon (Jr./M-B/Council Rock South HS), #16 Maria Palmieri (So./M/Neshaminy HS), #18 Reilly Finegan (Fr./B/Central Bucks East) and #20 Lindsay Boerner (Jr./M-F/Lower Moreland).
Penn’s Phila-area players include: #5 Chelsea Duggan (So./F/Academy of the New Church), #7 Alexa Hoover (Sr./F/Methacton), #2 Erin Kelly (Fr./M/Hill School), #25 Ava Rosati (So./GK/Gwynedd Mercy Academy) and Laura Shelton (So./B/Perkiomen Valley).
Free giveaways! Entry to the game is free. And, the first 200 registered players will receive free PhilaFH drawstring backpacks filled with promo items from Drexel, Penn and PhilaFH sponsors! Coaches may register their teams. Individuals are also welcome to register. Team registrations is required for your team to be included in the game day program and halftime announcements. Meet the college players: After the game, fans will also have the chance to meet and greet with the Drexel and Penn players and have free team posters signed. Bring your sticks and/or favorite t-shirts for autographs too.
Show your team pride: Wear your team jersey and show your team pride! The Team Spirit Award will be presented again to the Phila-area high school, middle school, youth team or club with the most players in attendance. The winning team’s photo will be featured in our post-game write-up and via social media. Look out for the Interboro High School field hockey team; they’ve won the Spirit Award fro the last two years.
Shout-out to Brandywine Youth Field Hockey Club (BYC)! The youth players will have the opportunity to meet the college players before the game, be part of their pre-game circle, and escort both teams onto the field.
Over the last three seasons, nearly 1,000 fans from 30+area high schools, middle schools, club and youth programs have packed the stands at Philafieldhockey Days to cheer on our area teams and celebrate Phila-area field hockey! See you there!
