Congratulations to our Young Journalist Winners, Katie Liebeskind and Maddie Waldspurger! The two have earned the chance to watch Team USA in action vs. Ireland on Friday, May 26th as part of the media. They will interview players after the game and their articles will publish on Philafieldhockey.com. Liebeskind and Waldspurger will also share their experiences in a short article that will publish on USAfieldhockey.com.
Liebeskind is the starting goalkeeper at the Academy of Notre Dame, which clinched the PAISAA State Title this fall; she earned All-InterAc First Team honors. She is also a member of Philly Hockey Club. Earlier this month, Liebeskind committed to Division III powerhouse, Ursinus College. Liebeskind’s interests lie not only in field hockey, but also in journalism; her contest entry was impressive and conveyed her passion for the game and the profession. “I am interested in this contest because this is my exact idea of a profession for me. I want to be a sports journalist after college, and this would be amazing practice for me to know what to expect as an interviewer and journalist. The additional fact that I would be interviewing members of the USA Women’s Field Hockey team is crucial to me because personally, I believe that I would not only be representing our women’s team, but I would be representing all women and girls in America to follow their dreams and never give up…”
Waldspurger is a seventh grader at Pennfield Middle School (North Penn School District). She not only earned a spot on the middle school varsity team in her first year, but also garnered co-MVP honors. Waldspurger has also been a member of the Souderton Strikers FHC since age six and has been involved with USA Field Hockey Futures for two years. In her enthusiastic contest entry, Waldspurger shared: “I love field hockey I have been playing it forever! I want to know more about people on the women’s team, how they feel about field hockey, and if we share the same interests in the sport.” This will be Waldspurger’s first time to see Team USA in action — part of her 13th birthday celebration on May 24th.
