Mark your calendars: All six Division I field hockey teams from the City of Brotherly Love will be in action at the Philly City 6 Tournament, hosted by Temple University on April 23. Drexel, La Salle, Penn, Saint Joseph’s, Temple and Villanova will face off at Howarth Field at the Temple Sports Complex. This is a great opportunity for high school, middle school and youth players — and fans of all ages — to see six top college teams up close, on the same day, close to home.
“During the fall season, it’s exceedingly competitive between our Philly schools. Having the opportunity to come together in the spring for a fun day of hockey reminds us how fortunate we are to have such a strong and vibrant hockey community here in Philadelphia,’ said Marybeth Freeman, Temple Head Coach. “Families cheering, friends supporting, tiny ones running around with mini hockey sticks in their hands… that’s the hockey energy we are looking to embrace during our Philly City 6.”
The college teams will play full-field, 25-minute games; alumni teams will play a 7 v 7 format with two games playing simultaneously. Start time is 8:30 a.m. with crossover play beginning at 11:30 a.m followed by the College Championship at 2:45 p.m. The Alumni Championship, at 3:40 p.m. will wrap up the day. To add to the Philly spirit, Temple is working on securing food trucks in addition to the tailgates that take place at this annual, much anticipated event.
